Health facilities in the Agortime-Ziope District of Ghana’s Volta Region have implemented upgraded infection prevention and control (IPC) measures to improve patient and staff safety. The initiative, led by the District Health Directorate, focuses on reducing healthcare-associated infections through improved hygiene practices, proper waste management, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Key improvements include
Training for Healthcare Workers: Staff have received specialized IPC training to ensure adherence to safety protocols.
Provision of Essential Supplies: Facilities have been equipped with handwashing stations, disinfectants, and PPE.
Waste Management Systems: Proper segregation and disposal of medical waste have been prioritized to minimize contamination risks.
The District Health Director, Dr. Senanu Kwesi Djokoto, emphasized the importance of these measures in safeguarding both patients and medical personnel. “Infection prevention is critical to quality healthcare delivery,” he stated. “These steps will help curb the spread of infections within our facilities.”
The initiative aligns with national health policies and global best practices, reinforcing Ghana’s commitment to strengthening healthcare systems. Community members are also encouraged to support the efforts by adhering to hygiene guidelines when visiting health centers.
